Their imagination makes them thing someone or something is going to jump up at them.when it's all in der mind. but they dont realize that, because they havent figured that out.

i don't know the reason maybe they had a bad experience locked in a room or something or they could of been frightened when they were little,say in the middle of the night,so when they woke up it was dark,i know that can happen to children that's why they have to have the light on etc,i do like the darkness,i have spent hours alone there with my thoughts good and bad...

Some of it stems from uncertainty, some of it stems from a bad experience, and some people have a fear of the unknown where they can't see anything.

I seem to get along better with the dark

some are not just scared of the darkness but of their own shadows as well

because some people have claustrophobia and when its dark they get scared ........or if they have a bad memories they get scared in the dark

coz they can't see in the dark and they aren't sure what to expect and they lose their sense of directions perhaps? darkness is mysterious and some ppl just can't stand being in the 'unknown'

Whilst I am not afraid of the dark itself I do tread carefully, I might just tread on a snake crossing the road.

well if u watch dr who then fear of the dark isnt an irrational fear.

you can't see as well in the dark, and the unknown and uncertainty is really scary.

i am **** scared to walk around in the dark by myself, esspecially in panther land. =]
