  1. The latter.

  2. years ago when people did something wrong they knew they were doing something wrong but they did it anyway  now they don't know right from wrong and that is scary

  3. globally society has been really immoral for decades. we have always had wars,In Western society, they  used to burn people auto da fe's- in the name of religion, monks used to rape/molest girls ,nuns and blame the victim-this is where the succubus story comes from.

people have been raped, towns pillaged and plundered since time immemorial.women at one time were nothing more than their husbands property. slavery was a norm. I'd say society is much better now that slavery is abolished.

  4. No.

The total quality of life for most people is improving.  This is largely the result of new technologies that provide for our physical needs.  However, each new capability challenges the our social norms.

Society has changed a lot since the dawn of civilization.  Our morality needs to adapt more quickly to keep pace with the realities of today.

  5. Not at all, there is no h**l in the first place. You might say that man creates his own heaven and h**l right here, so it might be a good idea to improve one's understanding of our purpose for being in this world. Also, I'd say every generation deplores the behaviour of the earlier one, that's human nature I suppose.

  6. No, we are not descending to a hot and nasty place. We are however going through a massive global transformation. Traditions are coming under attack by new ideas. Free thinking can seem like a dangerous thing to those whose ideas are stunted by entrapment in the vortex of a glorious past.

In the interest of time and space I will include only one other rather cryptic thought: Beware the "ideal" of multiculturalism. It is a path to defeat through division. Within its clutches the future is strangled  and the past begins again. Rather frustrating.

  7. I think it's a bit of both.

And just how big is this handbasket supposed to be.

  8. yeah, and Elmira Gulch is driving the bicycle!

  9. If you're confining your question to morality, you're giving it a limited scope. But contrary to today's dominant mythology that we are always improving and renewing ourselves in our onward march towards progress and "solving" all our world's problems, a simple sign of the opposite reality is that when things go downhill they pick up speed. Our world has been picking up speed for a long long time. Now this can be dramatacally observed even within any individual's life time. Is this ever increasing velocity an attribute of going up or going down?

Individually, one can improve to "perfection" or degrade to lower than simple amimal existance. That ability is inbuilt and continuously practiced by everyone in their own time and place.

  10. The truth is that nothing or nobody is going to h**l . Your question is a pertinent one and I think that the zealots of Morality have been trying to control our passions and our lives since times immemorial, as you pointed out .

I enjoy hearing them, and some are hypocrites, talk their nonsense to the wind,  for they know not how to live a natural life . If they want to control the way I think or the way I behave,  then they have knocked at the wrong door .

  11. I wonder how the hand-basket industry feels about this phrase? They must have to go to mandatory counselling on this I'm sure....lol

Morality is a mere line drawing game. The ones who are in charge at the time the line is drawn get to be the absolute moralists who set the standard for the rest of us to follow.

When a new set of people get elected, a new line is drawn. This happens in every society in the world...

  12. I checked and it appears that there will be several things that are going to purgatory in a small hand bag.

  13. and Toto too.
