Survivor benefits, social security?

Does anyone know when survivor benefits end? My friend is a widow with two children under the age of 16. There is a lot of conflicting information out there and I'd like to give her a clear answer. When she went to the meeting at the Social Security administration, she said she was given the information and some pamphlets but there was so much information that she is getting things mixed up and the pamphlets don't answer this particular question. She knows that if she is to remarry that hers would be cut off. But is not sure otherwise when they would cut her and each child off. Any answers would be helpful. I am getting 16 and 18 for the kids and nothing for the mom. The reason she wants to know is because she wants to look into buying a house and wants to know for how long the funds are guaranteed.

Thanks again :)

  1. The children will receive benefits until they turn 18. However,if they are still in HS when they turn 18,they will continue to receive them until the month of their graduation or until age 19,whichever comes first.

I'm not quite sure about the mother, but I think she will continue to receive them unless she gets remarried or retires on her own benefits.

  2. I believe until the children are considered as Adults which at this time is 18.
