Susan Dommeyer clears first hurdle in Yonex Canadian Masters Badminton Championships 2012
Women’s Singles campaigner Susan Dommeyer of USA opened her marathon in Yonex Canadian Masters Badminton Championships in a perfect manner as she stamped Lyn Polson in opening match on May 7, 2012.
Susan, who is also top seed shuttler of the event, bagged this victory with final results of 24-22, 18-21 and 21-16 after sweating hard for 35 minutes.
The American lady exhibited superior badminton skills in three hard fought games and trod into next round while the Canadian girl had to bid adieu despite of putting a gutsy performance in the match.
The opening game set an overall aggressive mood of the match as both contenders snapped each other’s heels throughout the first set. They played entertaining badminton and remained toe-to-toe until game point situation.
In first half of the set, Susan got into commanding position by clinching some quick points but the opposing contender Lyn Polson narrowed the gap with some uninterrupted rallies.
After the interval, none of them could establish a comfortable lead and the opening set kept swinging between them until the last moment.
Three times they reached at game point situation and this neck-to-neck tussle ended when Susan earned final two points to place 24-22 score on the board.
However, the local shuttler Lyn Polson relished the home ground advantage and bounced back into match with a staggering performance in the second set.
She gained a decent lead straight away in the start and maintained an upper hand until mid-game break.
In later part of game, Lyn Polson committed some unforced errors which allowed her challenger to add some valuable points in her total.
The Canadian campaigner made amends in final stages of the set by establishing a three point lead which proved final blow for higher ranked rival who walked away with low shoulders after reading decisive figures of 18-21.
This 1-1 match score position aroused the hopes of local crowd but the decider changed the story completely.
Susan dominated from the beginning and maintained her supremacy until the last shot was played. She finished the crucial set by registering a notable margin of 21-16 and secured a berth in second round of the event.
