Question:

Sushi do's and don'ts....?

I live in Denver, Colorado. I'm interested in getting into sushi, and want to really experience the culture through the food. I am somewhat "dipping my toes" so to speak, but I really would like to be able to go in somewhere and know what I am doing and going for, and not look like a jackass! I am somewhat familiar with some of the types like Sashimi, and others.... want to know more about sashimi (did I spell that correctly?) Also, the condiments... how are these used? and in what proportions??? I know that wasabi can be very hot. Give me some ideas for a great meal that I could order... Is anyone very familiar with unagi??? How is it? I've had octopus and didn't really care for it, but I was younger then also... Maybe it wouldn't be so bad now.

  3. my favorite is

    uni (sea urchin) sushi

    spicy tuna roll (tuna with fish roe and mayonnaise and spicy sauce)

    california roll (imitation crabmeat and cucumber and avocado)

    eel avacado roll (broiled eel with avocado)

    hirame (raw fluke fish) sushi

    dragon roll (eel and avocado on the outside with tuna and salmon on the inside)

    you put wasabi into light soy sauce and then lightly dip a piece of sushi into it and then enjoy. i eat my sushi without any soy sauce or wasabi.

    unagi is eel. it's cooked eel. it's delicious.

    sashimi is thinly sliced raw fish without the rice.

    sushi is thinly sliced fish on top of rice

    maki are the rolls, the fish is rolled into rice and seaweed. my favorite is maki.
