  1. It's from China, but the sushi as we know it today is typical japanese cuisine, and cannot be found in other countries.

  2. No it is originally from Southeast Asia of china used river fish  As a preserved food, the salted fish from the river.

Japanese loved rice and used to role.itand eat it

Japanese began making haya-zushi, which was created as a way to eat both rice and fish; this dish was unique to Japanese culture. Instead of being only used for fermentation, rice was mixed with vinegar and combined not only with fish but also with various vegetables and dried preserved foods. Today, each region of Japan still preserves its own unique taste by utilizing local products in making different kinds of sushi that have been passed on for generations.

what we eat now is different it is modern sushi

  3. I am sorry to tell you that you sound just another right-wing Korean who has

    an inferiority complex to me...

  4. Aren't you a bit embarrased to ask the question?

Now people know that you don't even know the difference between sashimi and sushi.

Anyway, read the following websites if you really want to know the history of SUSHI and why people start thinking that the sushi that many Americans eat today  is from Japan:

  5. Is this really a question or just a rhetorical rant? and what does Dodko have to do with sushi?

  6. Sushi and sashimi are not related, even if many restaurants list them together.  Sashimi is just sliced raw fish, which has been eaten since the stone age by people from many countries around the world.  Raw fish has also been preserved by drying, salting, smoking, vinegaring, etc. for thousands of years.

Sushi does not mean "raw fish," it actually refers to the vinegared rice, and was invented in Japan.  "Su" is Japanese for vinegar, and "s**+" comes from the word for cooked rice.  Vinegared rice is a good way to preserve raw fish (as well as many other foods), especially back before refrigerators were common.

Raw fish was generally not consumed by the Western world until the 1980s, during Japan's economic boom when Japanese food culture was spreading around the world.  Thus many people connect the word "Sushi" to the consumption of raw fish, but actually they are not really related.

  7. While I acknowledge that sushi has antecedents on the Korean peninsula, I subscribe to the theory that sushi as we know it is very much a modern food. What we think of as sushi today came about when Japan constructed railroads and people began to commute to cash paying jobs, rather than working in a household.

Once many people were on the move they needed portable food-hence sushi, bento, onigiri, etc. Like you say, it was originally coastal communities where they could consume raw fish. Obviously the folks in Matsumoto weren't eating too much raw fish during the Edo era. Once the ice trade began fresh fish could be transported and even urban workers in inland communities could eat what we know today as sushi.

  8. Ok, ok. I know all the good are came from Korea or China, for sure....We've sick to hear that claiming with no evidence....Well, boy, it's time to go bed, good boys shouldn't wake up so late. Yes, you are right, have a good dream.

  9. China. Began in China.  A long, long, long time ago. Not Korea. And sushi as we know it is Japanese.

  10. Sushi was fermented food originally.

It was a food that was made to mix animal-matters with cereals and ferment in long time.

It is thought that such foods were made in whole Southeastern Asian area from the ancient times.

The food which is generally known as "sushi" now, It is used vinegar instead of acid generated by fermentation.

This "quick made sushi(called "Hayazushi" in old days)" was invented for fastFood in Japan at period of national isolation.

Koreans said "j**s are barbaric, eating raw fish", When almost Euro/US people felt/said that "disgusting to eat raw fish" in old days.

When Bonsai was just called "dwarf tree" negatively in (ex-called)world powers, Koreans said "It's the thing only by j**s living in small island country. It's incompatible with us who have been living in grand continent".

Nowadays, Sushi, Sashimi and Bonsai are accepted, well known and get just about positive evaluation, And Koreans begin saying "originate from Korea".

It's Korean's liberty to act anything on Korean traditional method "worship of the powerfuls".

But do you koreans really think that it's an attitude of responsible person?

  11. Spaghetti is associated with Italy, right?

    And so does tomato sauce.

Well, tomatoes came from South American and noodles came from China.

Belgians (and Swiss) are famous for their chocolate.

And chocolate comes from Mesoamerica (Mexico and Central America).

    What's your point?

Many traditional "national" dishes originated elsewhere.

    That's how it is.

  12. No offence but Sushi is a Japanese cuisine that invented by Japanese.

there are various sushi which are called Nigiri zushi, Maki zushi, Chirashi zushi, Oshi zushi, Inari zushi, Nare zushi etc..

it is said that old form of "the nare zushi" were originally preserved fish food from south east Asia.

so, we can say the nare zushi has its roots on south east Asia.

but basically, "SUSHI" is japanese cuisine because most of the sushi is invented by Japanese.

and as far as I know, han-chinese, Korean and southeast Asian had no custom to eat raw fish till recently.

they started to eat raw fish because of Japanese influence since Japanese colony era and current sushi boom.

so, if you really believe "sushi" is originally from Korea, I guess you are brainwashed by your parents or government.
