“Sushil Kumar will skip the Asian Games”, confirms the Management
The wrestling team management of India has decided to rest the twenty seven year old Sushil Kumar for the upcoming Asian Games, rather taking any risk as a result of his neck and shoulder injury on Saturday.
The New Delhi resident Kumar also admitted that he had battled with some discomfort during his participation at the World Competition back in September as well as the Commonwealth Games that concluded a day ago. He was of the view
that he has been facing serious problems due to his injury for the last couple of months therefore he personally thinks that he should rest his body and skip the next month’s event, starting from 12th November in China.
"The Wrestling Federation of  India and my coaches asked me to take rest because if the injury flares up it will affect my preparation for the 2012 Olympics in London,” added the five foot five Kumar who won a gold medal at the
Commonwealth Games this year in New Delhi.
According to recent reports, the number two Indian wrestler in the 66kg category, Pardeep Kumar will be playing in place of Kumar in the next month’s China event.
Jagmender Singh, who is the national coach when talking to the media, confirmed that Kumar’s injury would heal after a rest of fifteen to twenty days.
Meanwhile, Arvinder Pal Singh who is the team physio of India clarified that Kumar’s injury is muscular and there is nothing serious at all. He further added that it is just a cause of over exertion as the MRI scan and other tests
have indicated a muscular strain around his shoulder and neck.
Kumar participated in three back to back events namely the World tournament, Asian championship as well as the Commonwealth Games therefore his body definitely needs some rest now. The Indian Wrestler also had a minor pain in his
right shoulder during the warm up to the World Championship. Therefore, after Moscow he was given treatment in order to take part in the Common wealth Games as it was his home event.
"However we do not want to take risks any more. Therefore, we have decided to give him rest and let him recover completely from the small niggles and save it from becoming worse," Arvinder Pal Singh (his physiotherapist) said on
Saturday.
