Liverpool starlet, Suso, has admitted that he was shocked and elated after being handed over his first cap by Brendan Rodgers this season.
The Spanish International, who was signed by the Merseyside club in 2009, made his Premier League debut against Manchester United in a 2-1 defeat in September at Anfield.
Since then, he has cemented his place in the team’s starting line-up and has emerged as one of the rising http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 stars.
The Anfield chief, Rodgers, is known to be a huge admirer of the 18-year old. The Ulsterman views him as an important part of his new model and has shown no reluctance in using him even in the big matches.
While talking to the reporters during an interview, Suso confessed that he was shocked over his rapid progress under Rodgers’ management.
The talented midfielder said that he was least expecting to earn a regular spot in the team before the start of the campaign, as he faced strong competition from other more experienced and seasoned campaigners in the squad.
“I couldn't believe he [Rodgers] was picking me to play the second half against Manchester United and not one of the others like [Nuri] Sahin, [Stewart] Downing or [Jordan] Henderson,” he said.
“Since then I have started every game in the Premier League. It has been a big change in a short time.”
Following the summer transfer window debacle, which saw the club fail to bring in much-needed reinforcements to bolster their offence, Rodgers was forced to turn his attention towards the academy players in order to fill the gaping void in the squad.
After seeing his manager vest his faith in him, Suso now plans on vindicating the gaffer’s decision by making a notable impression this season.
The Spaniard vowed to sweat his brow in order to help the Reds fight off their slow start and wants to make the most of the opportunity that has fallen in his way.
“You do not get the chance to play for Liverpool every day, so I knew I had to take it… I know I have just started and this is where the hard work starts,” he added.
