A 26.0 kg beam is attached to a wall with a hinge while its far end is supported by a cable such that the beam is horizontal. If the angle between the beam and the cable is θ = 66.0° what is the vertical component of the force exerted by the hinge on the beam?

  1. Ahhhhhh, a little tricky.  I like this one.

    Sum of the moments about the center of the beam, moment arm is L/2 for y reaction (at hinge) and vertical component of tension.  Then sum forces in y.

    T=139.5N

    Ry=127.5N
