Suspended Trio to Defend Themselves Today
The trio of Pakistani cricketers Salman Butt, Mohammad Aamir and Mohammad Asif, who had been charged with alleged spot-fixing during team’s tour to England, will be given with the chance to defend themselves today. The hearing has already begun in Doha,
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Qatar-c2986, since January 6.
After the news came out, which suggested that all three players had provided different accounts over the instance before the ICC anti-corruption Tribunal, it can be predicted that the day is going to be rather difficult for them.
The leaks which had been coming out of the hearing as well as the detailed report on an international news channel had already suggested yesterday that Aamir and Butt both seemed confused about how Mazhar Majeed could predict the exact timing of the no-balls
in question. While Asif, replying to a similar query, had stated that he bowled a no ball when his captain had suggested him to bowl a fast delivery to get rid of the batsman on the pitch.
As far as Asif is concerned, his opening remarks and answers seemed rather well thought and carried weight. However, it is interesting to note here that while commenting over the no-balls in question, both of the umpires at Lords had also shared a similar
view point. While sharing his views, Tony Hill, one of the umpires of the match played in Lords had said, “There had been the big overstep in particular and in our minds that was more a deliberate overstep to have a go at Trott, who had been batting so well.”
However, ICC, which had finished presenting its case yesterday, is of the view that evidence which has been produced by the tabloid News of the World carried a different story. Yesterday, when the proceeding started, it remained dominated by the presentation
of the evidences provided by the ICC and the cross examination of all witnesses who have been a part of the hearing.
In order to share their view point, and to answer the ICC anti-corruption tribunal officials, the skipper for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 along with the coach Waqar Younis appeared via teleconference. This was the second time when the pair
had recorded their statements before the tribunal. The first time they shared their opinions was back in October-November while they were there in Dubai to have a series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
While commenting upon the situation, the ICC has made it clear that it would be relying upon the evidences which have been gathered by the News of the World. It is also believed that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed who had broken the story, will also be called upon during
the proceeding of the case.
