Question:

Suspensions/Injury?

I know, I know there's been heaps of Barry Hall questions in the last couple of days but...

Do you think that if a player gets injured and is out for 3 weeks and gets suspended for 5 weeks for something they did in the same match (like Baz) that the suspension should start when the player is eligible for selection?

  1. this happened in our local leauge a few years ago in the under 18's a young fella was king hit form behind and other player was suspended until the kid with the broken jaw played agaain sad to say he never played again alot of good talent wasted

  2. Yes I think you are right.it really should happen that way.

But and here I go everyone, it is only a WCE player, not only should he be let off but I reckon he should be given the Brownlow.

  3. yeah that should be right but barry should get 0 weeks it was just a little punch

  4. Your theory won't actually work if you think about it.

Let's say that Player A pulls a hamstring and is out for 3 weeks, he cops a suspension of 1 week. The club could lie about the injury saying that he is ready for selection  straight away so that the player won't miss any matches. In reality his hamstring is healing while he recieves his one game suspension

  5. i believe it should coz its not fair for players on the other end aka Staker

  6. No, why should a player get punished because they are injured? What used to rile me was  how other codes counted representative matches in the suspension so if you are out for two weeks but there is a state of origin match midweek then you would only miss one club match (that is only if you were theoretically picked for SOO but if the state coach was your club coach then of course that played was "selected").

  7. hmm....that is a good question and one that the AFL should look into.

I see so many good points for it but I think that a broken hand does put your out for a while....its not like a groin strain where he is eligible after a week or 2....he is out for at least 6 weeks already.

I think he should be suspended for at least 8-10 weeks....6-8 of them will be with a very sore hand!

  8. That's right - the club has everything to gain by declaring the player fit for play whether  he is or not.

But in the case of suspension, an AFL appointed doctor could give a medical OK, or not, at the time, for anyone suspended having been declared injured.

And in the case of Barry Hall, whose Saturday night fever is getting to the boiling stage, it would do him and the game good to have to wait for his suspension until the quack declares him OK. 2009 maybe?

  9. Yes. A good idea.

But you know how these Victorian clubs cheat, their doctors would be telling porkies all the time. Too hard to police, I'd venture to say.

  10. I dont agree with that statement except in Barry Hall's case it certainly should be applied!

Imagine a player was booked for striking, then continued to play and broke their leg and was out for a year.  How sad would it be that they would then have to wait another X amount of weeks for the suspension.

  11. nah i dont think that would work at all

  12. i used to, but as some others have said, the clubs are so sneaky, they would then never come clean about injuries etc, it  if i did  a hammy, 4 weeks, and the club said it was a twinge, so only 2 weeks out, nah, good idea if there were impartial doctors, but that's impractical, wouldn't work.

  13. I would like to see it happen - especially with Barry Hall.

I don't think it will ever be introduced due to the difficulty of overseeing the matter. An AFL umpire could liase with the relevant teams doctor to ascertain a particular date that the injury of the time could be diagnosed & rated.

Clubs would come up with all stories re the injury - look at them now with pre-season games & the old State games.

  14. i think if the player hurts himself and hes out for 6 weeks he deserves to have punishment as well. if sitting him out of the game for another 5 weeks isnt enough punishment then just fine him and get on with playing the game.
