Sussex County News: Amjad Khan joins the club while Corey Collymore decides to move on

Sussex has signed 29-year-old pacer Amjad Khan from Kent for a three-year stint. The Danish-born paceman had been playing for Kent since he started his county career back in 2002.
29-year-old Amjad, after spending almost eight years with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kent-c802, failed to agree on terms with county for a new deal for next season. Amjad instead decided to join newly-prompted Sussex after their veteran fast bowler Corey Collymore announced his intent
of leaving Sussex to join Middlesex just a day before.
Khan was granted British nationality four years back but got English selector’s nod some three years later, when he was called-up for a Test series against England soon after his recovery from a career-threatening knee injury. During the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760
in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391 2009, he made his Test debut against the hosts.
Though the Danish-born has not played for English side since, his prolific pace and reverse-swing made him rousing choice for the Sussex coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mark-Robinson-c74734. The coach hauled Amjad’s genuine pace calling him a match-winner across all formats of cricket.
Robinson was hopeful that the addition of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 to Sussex’s bowling armoury would be a remarkable spearhead to harmonize other young bowlers of the club.
“Amjad has genuine pace and is a potential match-winner in all formats of the game," said the Sussex coach. "Having spoken at length with him, one thing that comes across is how determined he is to re-establish himself as a potential England cricketer, and
to make telling contributions to a winning team. His reasons for coming are all those, as a coach that you want to hear. He will be a good spearhead to complement our other exciting young bowlers."
The 6 feet right-arm pacer was sad to leave the county with which he kick-started his first-class career. Khan, who missed most of the ongoing season due to injury, said that he was looking forward to new challenges with Sussex Sharks. The prolific pacer
called his nine years with Kent as the most wonderful period of his life. According to Amjad, leaving Kent was a wrench for him but the paceman was looking for a new start and fresh challenges with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sussex-c852.
“My nine years with Kent have been fantastic and it was a wrench to leave, but I have come to the point in my career where I need a new start and a fresh challenge.” 29-year-old pacer was pretty hopeful about his county future as well as his international
career as he has “no intention of being a one-cap Test cricketer.”
A day before Amjad’s inclusion into Sussex, the former West Indian seamer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Middlesex-c817 to be closer to his family.
32-year-old seamer joined Sussex in 2008 after his international career died away. Since then, Collymore had been an indispensible part of Sussex’s bowling department. Collymore had a prolific season with the club, as he claimed 57 wickets in Division Two
Championship this summer. Despite successful stint with Sussex, Collymore wants to support his other-half, who plans to complete her accountancy degree in London.
Sussex coach Mark Robinson did not show any sort of resentment for Collymore’s decision. He praised Collymore’s contribution to Sussex during his two years stay at county, and said that it makes the club sad when anyone leaves, but the management respects
Collymore’s desire to support his family by being closer.
