hopefully the lack of emissions from an electric car will help to offset some of the carbon emissions generated at the power stations making electricity - unless of course that power station is fuelled by wind/solar or burnt waste.

I was angry to see the news report claim they had "zero-emissions" and were "environmentally-friendly".  Guess again!  They need to be plugged in (they don't run on VooDoo, do they?) and when you generate electricity in a coal or gas-fired power-station, and then lose a load of that electricity in resistance through the National Grid wires, you produce more CO2 than if you fit the car with a petrol or diesel engine.

Stupid council, blinded by a sales-pitch.
