Sussex sign Rana Naved-ul-Hasan for first half of 2011
Sussex County Cricket Club have re-signed Pakistan seam bowler Rana Naved-ul-Hasan as their overseas player for the first half of 2011 county season.
Naved’s first stint with the county was in the 2005 season which was also his first-ever experience of playing county cricket. His spell with the club, however, was cut short after the England and Wales Cricket Board made a rule which
restricted the counties from playing more than one import at a time. Legendary leg-spinner of Pakistan and the current spin bowling coach of England, Mushtaq Ahmed was also playing for Sussex so the county released the fast bowler.
The club played Rana in the next two seasons and played a pivotal role in their Championship victories in 2006 and 2007.
In the following two seasons, he played for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sussex-c852 until end of June 2011.
During the 2010 county season, Rana prospered in his 9 Division Two appearances, picking up 27 wickets and scoring 258 runs. He hit an astounding century against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Leicestershire-c807 which came off 113 balls and included nine muscular boundaries
and two lofty sixes.
The fast bowler is currently playing for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 Tigers in Australia's Big Bash Twenty20 tournament. He has played 130 first-class matches compiling 3,689 runs including 5 centuries and 10 half centuries.
Since debuting in October 2004 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, Rana Naved has played 74 One Day Internationals, 9 Tests and 4 Twenty20 internationals for Pakistan but failed to make a cut in the World Cup squad.
He has not played for the national side since http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in 2009-10. He was also served with a 12-month ban in the aftermath of that tour, though the decision was overturned in October 2010.
Sussex coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mark-Robinson-c74734 was delighted for having signed the all-rounder and was hopeful of a successful season ahead.
“We're delighted that Rana is returning this summer as he was like a breath of fresh air when he was with us last year,” said Robinson. “The energy and match-winning threat he gives us will be an important ingredient for what hopefully
will be a successful season.”
