Sussex snap up Rusty Theron for 2012 Friends Life T20 campaign - Cricket News Update
The Sussex County Cricket Club has snapped up South Africa fast bowler Rusty Theron as their second overseas player for the 2012 Friends Life T20 campaign, commencing on June 12, 2012.
The 26-year-old Proteas seamer will join former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 all-rounder Scott Styris at the PROBIZ County Ground.
Sussex's professional cricket manager, Mark Robinson, expressed excitement over the signing and hoped the South African pacer would bolster their pace bowling prospects in the death overs.
"We're delighted to have captured a player of Rusty's quality and experience,” said http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mark-Andrew-Robinson-c74518 while speaking to the media reporters after announcing Theron’s signing on Monday.
"The finish of an innings can win or lose a match and Rusty is a proven performer in the department of bowling at the death," he added further.
The 26-year-old Potchefstroom-born right arm medium pace bowler, who has played four One Day Internationals and nine T20 Internationals for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, had played club cricket for Brighton and Hove in the Sussex League in his teens and was excited to be
part of English cricket once again.
"I am really looking forward to joining up with Sussex as they have been a leading county in t20 for the last three seasons," said Theron at the press conference.
"Having spent two seasons playing club cricket in Brighton, I am pleased to be going back to renew old acquaintances and intend to be part of another successful year with the Sharks," he added further.
The Proteas pacer said that playing Twenty20 cricket is always fun and enjoyable. He however admitted that he was quite nervous as this would be his first experience of county cricket. He was supposed to play for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Northamptonshire-c824 two years ago, but the contract
was dismissed after Theron failed to secure a work permit.
