Sussex v Northamptonshire – Clydesdale Bank 40 (Group C) – Match Update – Sussex bag 8-wicket victory over Northants
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Northamptonshire-c824
at the Arundel Castle Cricket Club Ground on July 22.
Sussex won the toss, electing to field first, and Northamptonshire (who have failed to win any of the 3 completed games they have played in the tournament so far) found themselves in trouble from the start, with both openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Willey-c1342
dismissed on duck, by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kirk-Wernars-c71515 respectively.
Sussex boasted a deadly bowling attack, and in addition to Liddle’s 4-wicket haul, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 (8-0-26-2) all claimed two scalps each.
The next duo up to bat comprised skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Sales-c1337 (5), but both continued the disappointing trend set by the openers. Sales became Wernars second victim, dismissed in the 4th over, while Liddle struck in the 11th
over to take out Wakely.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Murphy-c53110 (11) were both sent back to the pavilion by Styris, by which point the Northants were at 46 for 6 by the 18th over.
Rob Keogh (30) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Middlebrook-c1651 (37) attempted to resuscitate their team’s innings and managed to establish a 60-run partnership which got their side up to 106 by the 34th over. However, both were dismissed by Liddle, and the remaining batsmen
–Con de Lange (11), Oli Stone (0), and Dave Burton (0*) – were unable to contribute much. Northamptonshire eventually finished, all out, at a paltry 129.
Understandably, the chase did not prove too difficult for Sussex, who managed to reach 130 by the 31st over, at the expense of 2 wickets.
Opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Graham-Downton-c44379 Joyce’s 38* were all the team needed. The two batsmen established an unbeaten partnership of 96 runs, which
enabled their team to clinch an easy 8-wicket victory, with 57 balls remaining.
