3-wicket hauls by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chris-Nash-c1247 saw Sussex claiming a 17-run win over Warwickshire during their Clydesdale Bank 40 match, played at the County Ground in Hove on August 15.
Sussex won the toss and elected to bat first, with Nash (16) and skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/LJ-Wright-c1841 (0) back
to the pavilion in the 5th over.
Wright followed up the double strike with skipper Joyce’s wicket in the 7th over, and the top order exited without putting up much of a fight.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JS-Patel-c1747 (8-1-29-2), who
also went on to sweep http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Joe-Gatting-c1710 (8) off the pitch in the 25th over.
Wicketkeeper batsman Ben Brown (4) was also dismissed without offering much resistance, but Player of the Match Yardy found another able partner in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kirk-Wernars-c71515 (37*), with both batsmen teaming up for a 50-run 7th-wicket partnership. By the time
Yardy was sent back to the pavilion by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Keith-Henderson-Barker-c70622 (8-0-48-3) in the 36th over, the team total had reached 179.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Amjad-Khan-c44095 (8), and Sussex finished at 199, at the expense of 9 wickets, by the end of 40 overs.
Chasing 200, Warwickshire were sorely troubled by Beer (8-0-27-3) and Nash (4.4-0-27-3), with Amjad Khan (8-1-39-2) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chris-Liddle-c1245 (8-0-42-1) chipping in to restrict their opponents to 182, all out.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/WTS-Porterfield-c2801 (20) and Laurie Evans (22) appeared to have gotten the team off to a steady start, posting a combined total of 31 runs on the board, but the partnership came to an abrupt end with the dismissal of Porterfield via run out in the 7th
over by Beer. Evans followed soon after, sent back to the pavilion by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 in the 14th over.
Skipper Jim Troughton (30) and wicketkeeper batsman Tim Ambrose (21) teamed up for a 36-run stand, but their partnership was short-lived, courtesy 23-year-old Beer. The leg-spinner sent Ambrose packing in the 22nd over, and followed that up with
Troughton’s wicket in the 26th over.
At 101 for 4, and with the entire top-order down, Warwickshire proceeded to lose two more wickets – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rikki-Clarke-c85428 (4) caught out by Joyce off Nash in the 29th over, followed by the dismissal of Darren Maddy (12), who was bowled by Beer in the very
next over.
Barker (26) and Steffan Piolet (28) both made a valiant attempt to resuscitate the innings, setting up a 52-run 7th-wicket stand, which was broken up by Nash. The remainder of the batting order failed to contribute much, and following the dismissals
of Paul Best (0) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Huzefa-Mohammed-Patel-c63657 (5),Warwickshire found themselves all out at 182 – 17 runs short of victory.
The win saw Sussex edging out Warwickshire to claim the top spot on the Group C points table, placed at an ideal position to qualify for the CB40 semi-finals.
