http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867’s Innings Recap
Yorkshire had to chase down 247 runs for victory against Sussex in a Group A match of the Clydesdale Bank 40, at the County Ground, Hove in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, on Wednesday, July 27, 2011.
The visitors did have some quality batsmen, but none managed to stay longer at the crease in yesterday’s game. Wicketkeeper batsman, Jonny Bairstow, was the only player, who reached forties, collecting 43 runs for his side. This was not enough though, as
the team was bundled up for 170 in less than 35 overs.
The pitch had become a touch difficult for the batsmen in the second half of the game. The ball didn’t come onto the bat as the batsmen would have expected, which made it hard to time the ball.
Yorkshire would have hoped for a good start to their innings, but were put on the back foot early in the innings, losing their skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Gale-c1039 in the first over. He was unable to trouble the scorers and had to take a long walk back to the pavilion.
However, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Lyth-c922 put the team on track with a solid half-century partnership for the second wicket. They collected 65 runs before the latter was dismissed.
Lyth looked in good control of his innings and would have liked to carry onto the start, but gave his wicket away at the wrong time of the innings. He ended up with 33 runs off 38 balls with the help of three fours and a couple of big sixes.
Sayers was also unable to make most of the start he got to his innings and was sent back to the pavilion after adding just 25 runs to the total. He faced 35 balls in his outing and smashed a couple of boundaries.
Middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jacques-Rudolph-c1619, who managed 35 runs in his impressive outing with the help of one four.
Wickets kept on falling in the visitors’ innings, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Shahzad-c874 got out after failing to trouble the scorers.
Adding insult to injury, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rich-Pyrah-c2311 was run-out after scoring just 12 runs off nine deliveries. He had the ability to change the complexion of the match with some explosive batting, but failed to last long.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Sidebottom-c2333 got out for ducks in their short outings and the last man to be dismissed in the innings was Bairstow. He played well, collecting 43 runs, but ran out of partners at the other end.
Sussex’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MH-Yardy-c1946 bowled superbly, picking up four wickets for 10 runs in his spell.
