Question:

Sustainable/Home Solution for Oven Cleaner?

So I cleaned out my oven using a baking soda/water paste that worked pretty well to get all the surface "yuck" off. (Layered no baking soda, sprayed with water, closed up the oven, let it sit for 8 hours, then scrubbed it off). Then I used a simple Scotchbright scrub pad to get off some of the rough stuff. But I have some really old grease marks I'd like to get off, and would prefer not to resort to a chemical cleaner in order to do so. Can anyone suggest anything eco-friendly to get off really cooked on grease marks?

  1. self cleaning oven is the best If not you cant really get it clean w/o the heavy duty oven cleaner Just use gloves and lots of ventilation You dont do it everyday

  2. Next time use equal quantity of salt to baking soda to make your paste. The oven will have been cold if you left it for 8 hours. It is much easier if you try cleaning your oven whilst it is still warm.

Malt vinegar, salt and boiling water make a great spray to get rid of grease stains and bring a really nice shine.

If you have really tough stains then there is another method, it is messy though.  Make your salt baking soda paste and apply to the warm oven. Pour on undiluted malt vinegar so that it froths. Wipe it all off when it stops frothing. Then clean with baking soda/salt paste. Sometimes this will lift off baked on grease.

Pouring baking soda onto undiluted vinegar works like magic on blocked drains/sinks .
