Chantal Sutherland returning to Canada to ride Awesome Fire in the Wonder Where Stakes at Woodbine
Talented jockey, Chantal Sutherland, is returning to Canada to compete in the $250,000 Wonder Where Stakes at Woodbine on 29th July, 2012. This grand-event is the final leg of the Triple Tiara Series, where Chantal Sutherland
will ride Awesome Fire.
The Canadian bred, Awesome Fire, will be aiming to take home the money in the 1 ¼ mile race, where she will race carrying 121 pounds.
The charge of Nick Gonzalez has been in good shape but, has not been able to secure any victories this season. Despite this, she stood in the third spot in the Woodbine Oaks where she lost the victory to Irish Mission by ¾ of a length over 1 1/8 miles
in June, 2012.
The daughter of Strong Contender, foaled by mare Awesome Lass, competed in the Bison City Stakes at Woodbine on 1st July, 2012, but finished in fourth place in the 1 1/16 mile race.
The sophomore has never covered 1 ¼ miles before, so she might have to stretch a little. She has a record of 2-1-2 in 9 starts so it’s high time she claims another victory.
Owned by Chantal Sutherland’s brother, Hugh Sutherland, the three-year-old is definitely in good hands and the jockey might rub some of her magic on her.
Chantal Sutherland, who is now based in Southern California, became the first female jockey to win the Hollywood Gold Cup with the Bob Baffert trained, Game On Dude. Her credentials are impressive and she is all set to add another victory to her records.

"I'm very excited to ride my brother's horse and to ride for Nick and Martha Gonzalez." Sutherland told the media. "My brother is so stoked I am coming to Canada and I, too, am excited to come home and ride that beautiful turf course."
"I love Woodbine and can't wait to see everyone, even though the trip will be brief.”
