Suzaan Van Biljon captures Women’s 50m breast-stroke crown: Day three – 2011 All African Games
Day three of the 2011 All African Games ended in scintillating fashion at the Zimpeto National Stadium, in Maputo, Mozambique, on Wednesday, September 7. The session of the meet conducted the Women’s 50m breast-stroke final.
In the corresponding race, South Africa's Suzaan van Biljon snagged the gold medal on the podium by posting a winning time of 32.88 seconds. Meanwhile, Mozambique's Mariam Corsini snared silver medal on the podium by submitting a matchless time of 33.74
seconds and Nigeria's Racheal Tonjor earned bronze medal of the platform in a time of 33.81 seconds.
In the corresponding swim, Sara Lajnef of Tunisia was placed fourth in a time of 34.07 seconds and Daniela Lindermeier of Namibia earned fifth place honours in a time of 34.90 seconds. Samantha Welch of Zimbabwe was placed sixth in a time of 35.04 seconds,
while Mu’minah Connelly of South Africa earned seventh place in 35.86 seconds. Last, but not the least, Melia Mghezzi Bekhouche of Algeria settled eighth in a time of 36.14 seconds.
Earlier in the day, Kenya's Jason Dunford clinched the Men’s 50m butterfly title with a winning mark of 23.57 seconds, while South Africa's Neil Watson finished second in a time of 24.31 seconds. Garth Tune settled third in a time of 24.70 seconds.
Additionally, the Women’s 100m back-stroke title was taken over by Zimbabwe's Kirsty Coventry with a triumphant time of 1 minute and 00.86 seconds. South Africa's Karin Prinsloo earned silver medal in a time of 1 minute and 01.46 seconds, whereas, Algeria's
Amel Melih settled for bronze in 1 minute and 07.27 seconds.
Furthermore, the Men’s 200m back-stroke title was taken over by South Africa’s Darren Murray with a winning mark of 2 minutes and 01.74 seconds. Meanwhile, Charl Crous finished second in 2 minutes and 01.88 seconds and Tunisia’s Taki Mrabet was placed third
in a time of 2 minutes and 05.19 seconds.
The arena appreciated the efforts of all participants, while the winners were awarded medals and accolades for their impressive swims after the session’s completion.
