Suzaan van Biljon clinches Women’s 100m breaststroke gold: Day two - South African LC Nationals
Suzaan van Biljon of NTS-NT clinched gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke on second day of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Tuesday, April 17.
The 23-year-old van Biljon demonstrated her smothering efforts in the double lap breaststroke event. With her dazzling efforts, she remained considerably faster from her fellow competitors from the start.
She remained considerably ahead of her following rival, Tary MacKenzie of CGA-CG from the beginning and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 08.60 seconds for gold medal.
The gold medallist was trailed by MacKenzie, who stayed nearly three seconds slower from her and appeared on the finishing end with an effort of 1 minute and 11.14 seconds for silver medal.
The second position holder was chased by her team-member, Ronwyn Roper, who proved her eligibility for the third fastest spot of the event as she touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 11.30 seconds for bronze medal.
Her effort remained 0.16 seconds faster from Tara Nicholas, who ended her swim in fourth best place by clocking a time of 1 minute and 11.46 seconds.
Subsequently, Charl S. Crous of KZNA-KZ dominated the semi-finals of Men’s 100m backstroke. The 21-year-old Crous remained almost one body length ahead of his challengers throughout the race and submitted a wonderful time of 54.19 seconds.
His scintillating effort remained 0.77 seconds faster from Darren Murray of NTS-NT, who earned silver medal of the event by clocking a time of 54.96 seconds.
Murray was chased by Ricky C. Ellis of CGA-CG, who occupied bronze medal of the event with the timing of 56.03 seconds.
The third position holder was chased by Nicholas De Villiers of NTS-NT, who stayed nearly full body length behind and hit the wall with an effort of 57.14 seconds for fourth position.
In addition, the session ended after the conclusion of all planned events in Men and Women’s corner whereas the position holders raked medals for their notable efforts in their respective events at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship.
