Suzaan van Biljon earns Women’s 200m breaststroke gold: Day six - South African LC Nationals
Suzaan van Biljon of NTS-NT earned gold medal of the Women’s 200m breaststroke on sixth day of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Saturday, April 21.
The 23-year-old Biljon, who remained comfortably ahead of her challengers throughout the four-lap discipline in the semi-finals, proved her supremacy in the playoff and stepped on the medal rostrum for gold medal.
With her invincible efforts, she faced no difficulty in snaring gold spot of the race, as she stayed almost two body lengths ahead of her challengers and tapped the finishing end for gold medal by posting a time of 2 minutes and 26.74 seconds.
Her remarkable struggle stayed nearly four seconds ahead of her team-member, Ronwyn Roper, who followed her on the medal rostrum for silver medal by touching the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 30.25 seconds.
The 24-year-old Roper was trailed by Kelly Gunnell of CGA-CG, who remained nearly two seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and stepped on the victory stand for bronze medal by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 32.97 seconds.
The 18-year-old Gunnell was chased by Tara Nicholas of KZNA-KZ, who remained 0.39 seconds behind and settled on the finishing end for fourth position by hitting the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 33.36 seconds.
The fourth position holder was trailed by Justine Macfarlane of CGA-CG, who remained 0.53 seconds slower from her Nicholas and tapped the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 33.89 seconds for fifth position.
The 16-year-old Macfarlane was chased by Ki McLauchlan, who was 0.80 seconds slower and hit the finishing end with an effort of 2 minutes and 34.69 seconds.
McLauchlan was followed by Kelsey Jenkinson of WPA-WP, who earned seventh position of the discipline with the timing of 2 minutes and 36.39 seconds.
The 18-year-old Jenkinson was chased by Dan Lindemeier, who secured eighth position by posting a time of 2 minutes and 41.33 seconds.
Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all listed events while the podium finishers were awarded medals after the session.
