Suzaan van Biljon wins Women’s 200m breaststroke semi-finals: Day five - South African LC Nationals
Suzaan van Biljon of NTS-NT won the semi-finals of Women’s 200m breaststroke on fifth day of the South African Long Course Nationals at the KZN Aquatic-Kings Park Centre in Durban on Friday, April 20.
The 23-year-old Biljon served notice of her commendable talent by snaring top qualification spot in the playoff of 200m event.
With her impeccable efforts, she faced no problem in occupying top position of the discipline and outsmarted her challengers by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 25.89 seconds.
Biljon was trailed by Ronwyn Roper of KZNA-KZ, who stayed nearly four second slower from her and entered the final round as second best swimmer with the timing of 2 minutes and 29.83 seconds.
The 24-year-old Roper was followed by Justine Macfarlane of CGA-CG, who occupied third best qualifying position of the event by hitting the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 32.26 seconds.
Fourth best qualifying position of the race was secured by Ki McLauchlan, who stayed almost one second slower and ended her race with the timing of 2 minutes and 33.47 seconds.
Fifth qualification spot of the discipline was obtained by Tara Nicholas of KZNA-KZ, who surfaced on the finishing end with the timing of 2 minutes and 34.19 seconds.
Meanwhile, Chad Guy Bertrand Le Clos of KZNA-KZ dominated the semi-finals of Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM). The 20-year-old Le Clos stayed considerably faster from his foregoing finishers and hit the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 58.87 seconds for first position.
His finest qualification effort was chased by Darian Townsend, who remained 1.11 seconds slower and posted 1 minute and 59.98 seconds for second position.
Townsend, the 27-year-old was trailed by Sebastien Rousseau of WPA-WP, who captured third position of the event with the timing of 2 minutes and 00.41 seconds.
The 21-year-old Rousseau was chased by Dylan Bosch of CGA-CG, who ended his swim in fourth place by producing a time of 2 minutes and 03.19 seconds.
Furthermore, these finalists will contend against each other in their respective playoffs, where the winners will be awarded medals.
