Suzann Pettersen eager to record first victory of the current season
The current world number three, Suzann Pettersen is seeking to record her first victory in the current season, as she will participate in this week’s ShopRite LPGA Classic.
The tournament is being held from June 1-3, at the prestigious Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club, New Jersey, with most of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) titans in the roster.
Pettersen, who belongs to America, ranks among the hot favourites for the title, as her profile contains several achievements.
Despite being among the top-ranked players, the American star has not been able to prove her mettle in the current season.
Analysts said that the number three golfer can capitalise on the home crowd, as the field is also featuring several non-American players.
Despite brimming with confidence, Pettersen may find it hard to beat rivals like the current world number one Yani Tseng and the defending champion Brittany Lincicome.
The last LPGA event she won was the Safeway Classic, in August 2011. She displayed a superb performance, beating Na Yeon Choi of Japan.
Analysts said that the golfer is in good form, but she is taking the training more seriously than ever before. Spending hours on the practice range has helped her further improve her putting and swing.
The 31-year-old star has racked up 14 professional wins. She recorded 8 victories on the LPGA Tour. In addition to proving her worth on the LPGA, she has also done well on the European Tour, grabbing five titles.
Pettersen has been trying to bring the much-needed changes to her putting since the start of the 2012 season, and has improved to a great extent. The 2011 season went quite well for the golfing sensation, as she racked up 3 titles.
She won 2 LPGA titles and one LET. Despite vowing to do her best at New Jersey, Pettersen may face a threat from Tseng, who already said that she would try to maintain her ascendency in women’s professional golf.
The top-ranked golfer said during her interview that she is ready to take on rivals and will record her fourth LPGA triumph in the season. She admitted that her fans expect her win in every match, which is a huge responsibility.
