Suzann Pettersen fails to continue winning streak in Mexico
Norwegian Suzann Pettersen shot an overall 281 at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational 2012 to finish tied for the 12th position along with South Korean I.K. Kim.
Pettersen got off to a slow start as she shot a 70 in the opening round, but the next round saw her performance go from bad to worse. She posted a 74 on Friday, which severely dented her position
on the leaderboard.
Commentators said that the Norwegian star could have performed much better because she missed several chances on some of the easier holes in the opening and second round.
Commentators also said that the 31-year-old star was aware of her past performance on the LPGA Tour that saw her get back to winning ways in Asia. But this time, it was Americans who grabbed
the top-two leading positions.
Her performance improved a little in the final round as she recorded a 69. But it was not enough to help her find a spot inside the top 10. She fired four birdies on Sunday.
American Cristie Kerr carded an overall 272 to rack up the coveted title. With this latest success, Kerr has been able to put an end to her long winning drought.
“It feels amazing. You know, this is, since the first year it was here has been one of my favorite tournaments and I admire Lorena not only for what she’s done in golf,” Kerr said while speaking
to the media at the end of the final round last Sunday.
She said that winning a tournament associated with one of world’s most successful female golfers, Lorena Ochoa, has been a great experience. “You know I’ve played so much golf with her and
she’s such a fierce competitor. But also for what she’s done with her foundation and for the kids in Mexico. It’s really an honor to win this tournament”.
Pettersen received a rousing reception at the Guadalajara Country Club last Thursday, but she apparently lacked the courage that had sailed her through to the victories in the last few weeks.
She was one of the most experienced players in the field of Lorena Ochoa Invitational, played at Guadalajara Country Club, and that was why she sought to continue her winning streak after
winning two back-to-back victories at Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship and LPGA Hana Bank Championship.
