Suzann Pettersen firm to improve her ranking at Waterloo
Norwegian Suzann Pettersen, who is struggling to improve her ranking after the ShopRite LPGA Classic 2012, is gearing up to participate in the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic, scheduled to be played from June 21-24, at Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
Pettersen has been troubled about her ranking after performing worse-than-expected in recent events. She slumped to the 5th position a few days ago.
However, her amazing performance in the Wegmans LPGA Championship has helped her jump one spot, to the 4th place, in the Women’s World Golf Rankings.
Analysts said that after standing firm at the 3rd spot in world rankings for months, a drop in Pettersen’s position came as a serious blow to her, and she made all-out efforts to regain her lost position.
They said that although she has not been able to get back to the previous position, the surge of one spot is keeping her hopes alive.
The Norwegian star can do her best in the Manulife LPGA Classic, as the psychological pressure there is somewhat less compared with the second major tournament of the current season.
The tournament is going to pitch 144 players against one another, with a whopping $1.3 million purse.
Officials said that the field has not been confirmed yet, however, some of LPGA contenders have already shown their commitment to the four-day tournament.
The players, who have been confirmed, are Stacy Lewis, Paula Creamer from the United States, Japanese Ai Miyazato, Natalie Gulbis, Alena Sharp of Canada, American Cristie Kerr and Azahara Munoz.
Pettersen spoke to the media during the Wegmans LPGA Championship 2012. She said that she got off to a slow start in the current season, unlike 2011, in which she grabbed much of the media attention.
The golfing sensation said that she does not feel down, even if she fails to perform better. She shared that she is confident to bounce back in the upcoming tournaments.
“Well, I think every year I feel like I'm a better golfer. 2010 was probably one of my better years on Tour. Even though I had no wins, I had a very consecutive -- a very, very consistent performance throughout the year,” she said.
