Suzann Pettersen grabs second-round lead at US Women's Open 2012
Norwegian Suzann Pettersen, who desperately wants to get back on track after she tumbled to the sixth position in world rankings, grabbed a lead in the second round of the US Women’s Open 2012.
Pettersen looked fired up right from the start of the prestigious tournament being played at Blackwolf Run, as she made balanced strokes on almost every hole.
She posted a solid 68 on the second day and jumped to the top position on the leaderboard.
The Norwegian star kicked off the second round with full confidence and parred the first three holes. She however, faltered on the 4th hole as she had a little difficulty adjusting to hot weather.
She then parred the next three holes and received heaps of applause from the crowd after she drained a birdie on the difficult par-3 8th.
On the back nine, Pettersen picked up pace and started playing more carefully. She sank her second birdie on the 10th.
Another player who grabbed attention in the second round is American Michelle Wie. Wie, who has been winless for the past several months, fired a stunning 66 to tie for the second spot.
Wie got off to a lacklustre start, as she recorded a 74 in the opening round. However, she improved her game and did what her fans expected her to do.
Pettersen displayed a decent performance in the opening round, as she recorded a 1-under par score. However, the second day saw the once-feared golfer show her best skills.
Speaking to the media about her overall performance in the first two days, the 31-year-old star said that she is happy with what she did in both rounds, and will try to keep it up in on Saturday and Sunday as well.
“It's a very good halfway point so far.  I'm very happy with my game.  Playing very good.  I have a good feel for the greens.  I kind of like this course,” Pettersen said.
“It's hot out there for sure.  Hopefully we're done with the two hot days, and they're all calling for a cooler weekend.  Which I'm all for.  It's been two really hot days. And it was very quick turn‑around for us.  Finishing 8:00 last night on the tee box
pretty much 12 hours later”.
