Suzann Pettersen remains outside top 20 at Navistar LPGA Classic 2012
It is not a surprise that the latest Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) event — Navistar LPGA Classic 2012 — has gone without Asian contenders clinching the title, but Norwegian Suzann Pettersen has
certainly caused her fans to worry about her current lacklustre form.
Pettersen posted an overall 279 to finish tied for the 21st position at the Navistar LPGA Classic 2012, staged last week at Alabama. While American Stacy Lewis trampled all her rivals, winning her third LPGA
title for the current season.
Coming into the 2012 season with her head high as she managed to grab titles at the Sybase Match Play Championship in May 2011 and Safeway Classic 2011 in August last year, Pettersen appears to have got off
the track because she has not been able to win an event on the Tour so far.
Although the two victories in the 2011 season gave the Norwegian star plenty of confidence and an unmatched reputation, her putting does not look as solid as it used to a couple of months ago.
The current season has seen plenty of players rise to the occasion proving their worth on the LPGA Tour, but Pettersen can be seen faltering on the course, making efforts to get back to winning ways.
According to the stats, the LPGA phenom has not been able to finish inside the top 10 since the US Women’s Open 2012, held in early July this year.
Observers said that consistency is going to play a major part in Pettersen’s career as this is what she lacks the most at the moment.
Observers also pointed out that if the LPGA star, who has struck fear into her rivals for years, remains in her current position in the next few tournaments, she will let several lesser-known contenders walk
all over her in terms of world rankings.
Missing out on cash is another blow Pettersen has faced recently. The Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012, where inclement weather rattled players throughout the four days, saw the world number eight falter on
almost every hole and she ended up missing the cut.
Pettersen has said in one of her interviews that she is working on her strokes, putting and every aspect of her game, because she is desperately seeking to end her victory drought.
The Norwegian golfer said that missing the cut at the Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012 was grim, but she hopes to find her winning form soon.
