Suzann Pettersen still thinking about Solheim Cup
This year, the Ladies’ Irish Open is being held in the Killeen Castle, the venue of the 2011 Solheim Cup. The place holds special memories for the members of the European Solheim Cup team who won the event after a tough competition.
One member, particularly, remembers the event and finds that playing at the Killeen Castle is a bit difficult because of the memories of the victory. Suzann Pettersen still thinks of the event and finds that it is affecting her game.
When Suzann Pettersen took to the field for the first round, all she could think of was the Solheim Cup and the team spirit that is an integral part of the tournament.
Many observers said that perhaps her below average performance is the result of reminiscing about that win.
Talking about her memories and her decision of playing in the event, Suzann Pettersen said, “They are great memories and in a way I didn't really want to come back here because first the Irish (in 2011) and then the Solheim, it's hard to top that, but I'm
here to defend my title, so we'll see what we can do on the weekend”.
Suzann Pettersen finished the first round with a score of 72, posting a deficit of 5 strokes from the first place score of 67, on her scorecard. She ended up in the 11th place, a good start by the Norwegian player.
She started the round uneventfully and played all pars till the fourth hole. Here, she scored a bogey which caused some fans to worry about her ranking. However, Pettersen appeared to recover her form and scored a birdie at the seventh hole.
She maintained her form and shot two more birdies on holes 9 and 13. At this point, fans and experts were looking forward to a great ending of the round.
Suzann Pettersen appeared to be going strong with three birdies already on her scorecard. The next five holes were very disappointing for her fans.
At the 14th and 16th hole, she dropped a bogey each. This was not the kind of finish Pettersen was looking for.
She still has three more rounds to go. She could improve her game and could end the tournament in the top-three.
