Suzann Pettersen to play in Mexico with new vigour
Norwegian Suzann Pettersen is happy to have revived her game as she recently won two back-to-back titles in Asia, but the upcoming battle at Lorena Ochoa Invitational 2012 is going to put
her under intense scrutiny.
The Lorena Ochoa Invitational 2012 is scheduled for November 8-11, at Guadalajara Country Club, with the participation of most of the key LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars.
Although the field is going to feature plenty of big names like American Stacy Lewis, current world number one Yani Tseng and Paula Creamer, Asian stars are posing the biggest threat to Pettersen.
Asians could not do what her fans had expected them to do in the recent LPGA tour to Asia, where Pettersen proved her mettle at the LPGA Hana Bank Championship and Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship.
Still, Asians are hot favourite as they are going to be more fearsome than ever, with stars like Tseng and Inbee Park in the lineup.
Some observers said that despite the match being played in Mexico, where a different climate and course condition may prove challenging, Asians are far better than Americans and Europeans
put together.
However, the recent stats have shown that non-Asian contenders are rising to the occasion once again and it is likely that they are going to rack up more victories in the current season.
In the last three LPGA tournaments held in South Korea, Taiwan and Japan, Americans and Europeans were playing as smoothly as ever, giving a hard time to their Asian opponents on almost every
hole.
Whereas before heading to Asia a few weeks back, non-Asians were miserable in most of the tournaments, and they made too many mistakes.
The 2012 Lorena Ochoa Invitational is once again going to see a strong European lineup, with the defending champion Catriona Matthew eager to win for the second time in a row.
Matthew won the last edition by four strokes.
“The trophy is fantastic; it's certainly the heaviest one I've won. I think anyone was capable of winning this, but the last day obviously I.K., Suzann, I knew they were both capable of shooting
low rounds. I.K. won it last year, she likes the course,” Matthew had shared her thoughts at the end of the tournament.
