Suzann Pettersen vows to win LPGA Championship once again
Norwegian Suzann Pettersen, who could not display her usual performance at the ShopRite LPGA Classic 2012, has vowed to do her best at the Wegmans LPGA Championship, scheduled to start from June 7-10, at Locust Hill Country Club – Pittsford, New York.
Pettersen currently stands at the fifth position in the women’s world golf rankings, but she has not been able to prove her mettle since August 2011, when she won the Safeway Classic in the playoff.
However, the golfing sensation does not seem to be under pressure, and has promised to regain her momentum in the upcoming major tournament.
At the ShopRite LPGA Classic, the world number five could not live up to her fans’ expectations and finished tied for the 18th position.
She got off to a sloppy start, as she posted a 74 in the opening round. She bounced back in the second round and registered a decent 67 to improve her position on the leaderboard.
Analysts said that Pettersen could have scored well, but she did not appear comfortable on some holes.
They added that the Wegmans LPGA Championship may help the Norwegian prodigy boost her morale, as she won the 2007 edition of this tournament.
Speaking about her preparations for the second major event of the 2012 season, Pettersen said that she is eyeing the coveted title, as she has some good memories attached to it.
She said that she has been seeking to prove her mettle in the championship since her last triumph, as it is a great honour to win a major title.
“Well, first of all that feels like a long time ago.  LPGA Championship, that's our Major.  It's very proud to have my name on the trophy.  Definitely one that I would love to get another chance at.  My form feels really good.  I'm excited to come back to
Rochester,” the 31-year-old star said.
The Major winner said that Locust Hill Country Club is one of her favourite courses, and she will try to capitalise on her experience.
“I've always liked this golf course.  It's one of those courses it suits your eye or it doesn't. This is definitely one of the ones I have always done well at,” she said.
