Suzanne Ryan pockets Women’s 10km Open Water gold: Day two – Australian Open Water Championships
Suzanne Ryan of Miami served notice of her talent by pocketing gold medal of the 10km Open Water event in Women’s 14 and Under category on second day of the 2012 Australian Open Water Championships on Saturday, February 18.
With the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games, this Australian championship was of utmost importance as it allowed the open water experts to perform in their age groups and sharpen their skills before the biggest stage of sports.
The 14-year-old Ryan faced no trouble in occupying gold medal of the 10km discipline. With her immaculate efforts, she kept her competitors at a considerably bay and snared the title of the event in a time of 2 hours, 14 minutes and 54.50 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Renee Holdstock of Logan Vikings, who remained nearly three minutes behind and crossed the finishing end with an effort of 2 hours, 17 minutes and 39.54 seconds. Similarly, the silver medallist stayed in a comfortable lead
over her following swimmer, Rebecca Robinson of Victoria Park, who completed the podium by earning bronze medal of the swim with the timing of 2 hours, 20 minutes and 10.71 seconds.
Next was the equivalent event in 15 Year Olds class, where Jessica Bayliss of Australian Crawl snatched the title of 10km event by completing her race in a time of 2 hours, 07 minutes and 47.07 seconds.
With her flawless struggle, Bayliss remained nearly nine minutes away from her subsequent swimmer, Kaylie Ekinci of Campbelltown, who proved her eligibility for the second finest spot of the event by surfacing on the finishing end in a time of 2 hours, 16
minutes and 37.35 seconds.
The second position holder was trailed by Fiona Harris of Logan Vikings, who was about seven seconds apart and emerged on the medal rostrum for bronze medal by posting a time of 2 hours, 23 minutes and 35.96 seconds.
The crowd appreciated commendable struggles of all open water athletes in their exclusive events while the position holders were awarded accolades at the prize distribution ceremony of the championship. Furthermore, the session ended after the conclusion
of all listed events.
