Question:

Suzuki Boulevard S40 or Kawasaki Vulcan 500?

Anyone have experience with these motorcycles? I am looking for something in the 500-650cc range and these are all that are left in my area to choose from.

I can get the Suzuki for about $700 less than the Kawasaki. It has a bigger engine but seems older tech.

I have no plans to go bigger or faster. My wife rides a 400 so just looking to stay in this range. I'm 6'2, 250lbs, owned a BSA way back. Been riding my wife's bike lately guess it is time to get my own again.

  1. The Vulcan 500 has a LOT more power. It's a two cylinder engine pretty much like the one in the Ninja 500. For a guy your size you need to go with the Vulcan just because of the power difference. The S40 is extremely low performance for its size.

  2. I just bought the kawi and liked it alot. I considered the suzuki too, but it seemed too small. like everyone else is saying... go with the kawi.

  3. Both good bikes but I'd pay the extra for the Kawasaki.

The in-line twin is easier on itself , the bike handles well, and has power to get you out of tight spots.  Friend rode one across country.

I had an old Savage, it was a fun bike to ride in town.

  4. Oh, please.  It's a no brainer.  An air cooled engine with a maintenance-free belt drive versus a liquid cooled engine with a chain drive?  And you've got to give up cc's, too?

I'd take the Suzuki.  More fun, less fuss.  And it costs less.  Spend the $700 on a cool helmet and some accessories at JC Whitney.com

  5. Kawasaki is much better

  6. Go with the Vulcan.  You will be happier in the long run even though the cost is a little more.

  7. The Suzuki is a nice utility bike for hauling a person to work and back and short trips around.  The Kaw is actually tuned up a little hotter and will most likely outrun the 650. I am a fan of the Boulavard S-40. I think with work it would customise very well. It is low price and is and a utility  and a special interest bike. I like it, go with the 650.
