Question:

Suzuki Boulevard + V&H Straightshots Backfire?

I have a 2006 Suzuki Boulevard C50 and after 2,000 miles I put on V&H straightshots and my mileage is up to 8,000. I went out for a ride on Sunday, ended up riding through several showers, left the bike in the garage Monday, and Tuesday decided to take it for a ride. Once out on the road, my bike began to backfire frequently and loudly whenever I would decelerate. I am used to my pipes backfiring, but they were now backfiring more frequently and it sounded like I was doing a driveby everytime I let off the gas. I originally thought it was the air filter, but I inspected it and it was dry and clean. Any ideas?

  1. more than likely you have an exhaust leek I had the same problem with a 2003 1500LC I put the same pipes on. Would recommend getting new gaskets and checking for leeks wear the pips slip together and are clamped.

  2. Did you put NEW exhaust gaskets in you bike. ( they are copper rings that will crush when you install your new pipes) If you did not there is a very high chance you have a leak there.

The reason a bike will back fire is because it is to lean ( to much air in the system)

Somehow raw air is getting in to the system and missing up your fuel to air ratio. That is why you have a back fire. I would love to give you more info if you need it.
