Suzuki Grand Vitara 1.6 SE: Engine cutting out?

This morning was cold and damp

On way to work (5 miles) cut out 5 times while standing in traffic

Anyone had similar and how did you fix it?

Sounds like moister is getting into the spark plug wires or ignition coil etc or you've a bad set of spark-plug wires.There is a anti-moister jell that you can add to the rubber boots of the spark-plug wires but first I'd pop off each spark-plug wire one by one at both ends and check for rust or corrosion etc and try cleaning the contacts with fine sandpaper or small wire brush , plus if the connections on the ignition coil are rusted or corroded then you might want to put a whole new set of wires on that vehicle.

    Note even corroded or rusty contacts on the battery or alternator can cause this problem and check the starter too.

    Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way sometimes the ignition can have minor cracks in their housing and when moister gets into the faulty coil the engine will want to cut out.

  3. The previous post was accurate enough, I would replace the cap and rotor and plug wires since they retain moisture.
