  1. That's too much bike for a first timer.  My first bike was an old ratty Yamaha 400cc and I almost flipped it on my first day.

You need to get something small (light) to gain experience.  Also for the first bike, you are going to get into few minor accidents.  So why do it with more expensive bike?

This is what happens when people with no experience ride hot bikes:

    good luck...

  2. Its a good bike for a 1st timer or even a veteran rider, which is why they are so popular.  They are light weight, not weak but not too powerful.  The cost is moderate for a new one.  I'd also suggest the Kawasaki Ninja 500 which actually would be better for someone like yourself with no experience and less costly to buy and insure.  Wait until you complete the MSF course and have your license to make a decision, you'll get a better idea of your skill level after taking the course and in the course you'll be riding 250's I believe.  I took the course 7 years ago, but already owned a street bike (Katana 750) and had 10+ years of dirt bike riding experience, still it taught me some good skills.

  3. Great bike. Good riding position and a great looking bike that you will grow in to. If you are just starting to ride you will see that smaller bikes are just as dangerous as the big ones but once you have the basics down in the MSF course the 650 will be perfect. Good luck and keep the rubber on the road.

  4. had an SV640s for 3 years, has never let me down, plenty of power , easy to handle, you won't outgrow it soon, parts are available everywhere, insurance is better than supersports and it sounds awesome with an exhaust system!!!!

    Strongly recomend it

    Price is great also!
