  1. I've always thought it was just background services/processes, which is usually the case, but apparently it could also be a problem according to some reliable sources. You should do a full virus scan. Try some of these sites for a free, high-quality scan.

    www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html

    www.eset.com/onlinescan/

    www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

    housecall.trendmicro.com/

I would do at least 2 of those scans. If you come up clean, I'd say you're fine and don't need to worry about it.

  2. SVCHOST is a necessary process, and it doesn't use up that much resources anyway.

  3. The answer to your question is here.

As they said those are necessary processes. Only if you can disable some windows services, it can be reduced.

(Now why the heck would computer hardware developers have created RAMs and CPUs of high performance beyond our imagination! You see its purpose?))

  4. svchost dot exe is a Windows process, don't touch that---you need to disable unnecessary Services on your computer--please go to http://www.theeldergeek.com for a guide on what Services you can safely disable.
