The Borussia Dortmund midfielder admits that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/1-FSV-Mainz-05-c38166 made it difficult for his side in the second-half but is delighted to claim three points in the end.
The reigning Bundesliga champions had to fight hard to claim a 2-1 win in their game against Thomas Tuchel’s side this weekend. The player admitted that the opposition caused Dortmund many problems especially in the second-half
and admitted that his side should have taken the lead earlier.
Dortmund claimed all three points against Mainz on Saturday, March 3, as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mohamed-Zidan-c26404, who joined Mainz from Dortmund this January, scored for the visitors
after the interval.
Bender stated that his team knew that the opposition would make it difficult for them as they defend very well. He added that the players had to work really hard to get a win in the end as the visitors played some physical and
intense football.
“We knew Mainz would be very competitive man-on-man and that they're also incredibly hard-running. When two teams with a similar playing style go head-to-head, you can gear yourself up for an intense game and, from our point of
view, a difficult one,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
However, the German international insisted that his side would not have been in such a difficult situation had they taken their chances before the interval. He was pleased with the way his side fought back in the second-half and
scored a deserved winner courtesy Shinji Kagawa.
“And that's how it turned out. We could maybe have made life easier for ourselves by scoring a second goal a bit sooner. As it was, we let them back into it, but fortunately we struck back straight away,” he concluded.
The win has extended Borussia Dortmund’s lead at the top to seven points with just 10 games to go in the season. The Black Yellows are currently leading the table with 55 points from the 24 games played, seven ahead of second place
Bayern Munich. They will next take on FC Augsburg in an away game.
