The Borussia Dortmund midfielder has admitted that Bayern can never be written off and is looking forward to the game against Augsburg this weekend.
The reigning German champions have been in sensational form since the winter break and have won eight league games on the trot. Jurgen Klopp’s side has extended the lead at the top of the table to seven points with just 10 games
to play in the season.
Bender claimed that his team still have not secured the title as Bayern are well capable of pulling a comeback. He admitted that the Bavarian giants are still the contenders for this year’s title and feels that a seven point lead
is not enough.
Furthermore, the German international stated that Borussia Monchengladbach can also threaten Dortmund in the remaining games of the season. He insisted that Lucien Favre’s side has proven it’s worth this season and have the potential
to challenge the top teams in the league as they have some world-class players in their ranks.
“You should never underestimate Bayern. They're even more dangerous coming off the back of a defeat. But I'm keeping a close eye on Monchengladbach as well. I think they fully deserve to be so high up in the table. It's nice that
we've been able to build up a small points cushion, but it doesn't count for anything yet,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
However, Bender warned Dortmund against complacency in the upcoming match against FC Augsburg this weekend. The player stated that the relegation threatened club have been in impressive form since the mid-season break and cannot
be underestimated at any cost.
“But Augsburg have been in really good form since the restart. We'll be preparing intensively for it, to make sure we turn in another good performance - and get a result,” he concluded.
Borussia Dortmund are currently sitting at the top of the table with 55 points from the 24 games played and are seven points ahead of second placed Bayern Munich. Jurgen Klopp’s side have won 17 games and have just lost three times
in the league this season, drawing four.
