Sven Kastens tames Christian Bosiger in round-of-16 in Slovenia International 2011 – Badminton News
Germany’s Sven Eric Kastens has ousted Switzerland’s Christian Bosiger in the Men’s Singles round-of-16, in the Slovenia International 2011, Slovenia, on Saturday, May 14.
Third seed, Kastens, worked very hard for 53 minutes to beat Bosiger, who Anton Kaisti of Finland in the third round of the championships.
The German worked well in the opening set by playing a smooth game in the first-half. Bosiger was a little confused in the starting phase of the opening game, but gained momentum towards the end of the first part of the opening set. The score was tied at
10-10, when Kastens executed a powerful smash on the side-line of the court and took a one-point lead at 11-10.
After the one-minute interval, Kastens accelerated his speed and extended his lead at 14-11. Bosiger also increased his speed by playing fast at the net and levelled the score, at 15-15. In the concluding phase of the opening set, the German played a smart
game and controlled the rallies by pushing the Swiss in all corners of the court. Kastens clinched the opening set with a 21- 18 margin, in 17 minutes.
The second game was more thrilling where Bosiger occupied the driving seat from the starting points. He dictated the pace of the rallies by picking the bird early from all areas of the court. His perfectly executed strokes kept his opponent under pressure.
At the interval, Bosiger was ahead at 11-9.
After the break, the Swiss continued his dominance in the game by sparing no chance for his opponent to dictate any rallies. Kastens tried hard to level the score but remained one or two points behind his opponent throughout the second set. Bosiger grabbed
the set in 20 minutes by a 21-18 margin.
In the final set, it was Kastens who delivered a stunning performance by playing an aggressive game. His movement in the court was very smooth and he executed powerful smashes with considerable perfection. He remained ahead of Bosiger in the whole set and
won the match by a 21-16 margin, in just 16 minutes. The German won the 53-minute match with a 21-18, 18-21 and 21-16 margin.
