Sven Nys bags a useful victory at the Superprestige Gavere 2012
Sven Nys of Team Landbouwkrediet-KDL continuous his tremendous form and filled his bag with yet another victory at the Superprestige Gavere 2012.
He took a little over an hour to sail across the finish-line on Sunday, completing the race in a total time of 1 hour, 3 minutes and 2 seconds, standing at the top podium spot yet again.
Klaas Vantornout of Team Sunweb-Revor also rode brilliantly and was not far away before Nys launched the final attack, winning the race with a photo finish.
“Sven sneaked past me when I didn’t expect it. I had to do something. I gained a few metres on him after the pit but it wasn’t enough,” Vantornout voiced.
“My sprint was really fast but what can you say about that from Sven. What is it he can’t do,” he added.
Vantornout finished 2 seconds behind at the second position with Bart Wellens of Team Telenet-Fidea occupying the third spot.
“My mechanics and father told me to hold back and pace myself but I was comfortable. I was waiting for Nys to attack,” Wellens noted.
Kevin Pauwels of Team Sunweb-Revor and Rob Peeters of Team Telenet-Fidea occupied the fourth and the fifth positions with Niels Albert, Bart Aernouts, Thijs Van Amerongen, Julien Taramarcaz and Lars van der Haar securing the next five spots respectively.
“I don’t think I’ve ever been this good. I’ve certainly got more punch in my legs than other years,” Nys said after crossing the finish-line.
Nys is yet to be beaten at the Hansgrohe Superprestige series and has built a strong overall lead over his major rival, Niels Albert of Team BKCP-Powerplus.
The Belgian has not lost a single race in the Hansgrohe Superprestige series this season and has successfully extended his lead over world champion Niels Albert of Team BKCP- Powerplus.
He leads the category with a total number of 60 points, a healthy margin of 8 points over his compatriot and major competitor, Niels Albert who holds the second spot with 52 total points.
Kevin Pauwels of Team Sunweb-Revor is at the third position with 48 points, while Klaas Vantornout (43 points), Bart Aernouts (41 points), Lars van der Haar (39 points), Bart Wellens (33 points) and Rob Peeters (32 points) secured the claimed the next four
positions in the respective order.
