Sven Nys feeling exhausted after a busy season
Sven Nys of Team Landbouwkrediet-KDL is currently recovering his energies after a couple of tiring weeks.
Antibiotics, Vitamin C and plenty of rest is currently the top three tasks on the Belgian’s to do list as he waits for yet another busy day at the Superprestige series in Gieten.
"Taking antibiotics once every two or three years works effectively,” Nys said as reported by Nieuwsblad.
"I know my body very well and feel it [illness] coming on usually two or three days before. Then you can take precautions. Antibiotics are one of them but drinking hot tea, taking extra vitamin C, remaining inside and rest is important".
His recent victories came during the Bpost Bank Trofee-GP Hasselt 2012 (on November 17) and Superprestige Gavere 2012 (on November 18, 2012) where he overcame Niels Albert and Klaas Vantornout to occupy the top podium position respectively.
Nys was still 20 seconds behind Niels Albert after the Bpost Bank Trofee with Kevin Pauwels, Klaas Vantornout and Bart Aernouts occupying the third, fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
However, his marvelous victory at the Superprestige Gavere 2012 helped him improving the overall position.
The 36-year-old took a total time of 1 hour, 3 minutes and 2 seconds to occupy the top podium position, restricting Klaas Vantornout and Bart Wellens for the second and the third spots.
Kevin Pauwels of Team Sunweb-Revor and Rob Peeters of Team Telenet-Fidea secured the fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
Niels Albert of Team BKCP-Powerplus finished sixth and lost important minutes to the race and losing his overall lead.
Sven Nys leads the Superprestige standing after the fourth round with a maximum number of 60 points to his credit while Niels Albert is 8 points behind at the second position.
Kevin Pauwels and Klaas Vantornout of Team Sunweb-Revor and Bart Aernouts of Team AA Drink Cyclocross secured the next three positions with 48, 43 and 41 points respectively.
"It's just the fatigue of last week that has manifested. After Hamme-Zogge I immediately got on a plane to Switzerland for three days for meetings”.
“I absolutely felt fine. After Hasselt I felt I had gone too far. Monday I started to cough and even pain in my airways," said Nys.
However, despite all the tiredness and exhaustion, the Belgian is certain that he will be regain his energies to give his 100 % at the race ahead.
