Sven Nys of Team Landbouwkrediet-Euphony wins the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup Round 4
Sven Nys continued his tremendous run of form and overcame his conventional rival, Kevin Pauwels during the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup 2012.
The Belgian is enjoying a terrific season and has filled his bag with several top performances throughout the year.
His commendable performances of the 2012-13 seasons include first place finishes at the Superprestige Ruddervoorde, Zonhoven, Hamme-Zogge and Gavere.
He also claimed succeeded during the Bpost Bank Trophy at the Oudenaarde, Hasselt Neerpelt and Kalmthout.
"It's special to win here on this vélodrome which has so much history. It's a good start to December after a great November. I feel strong," Nys said.
"After two rounds, I thought winning was no longer possible but 15 points is not impossible to overcome. If there's no speed, then it gets crowded thus dangerous so I took the initiative," he added.
"I wanted to be in second place when entering the technical section. In that section, I had the acceleration to take the lead. It was also good to be in front while Albert - who earlier showed signs of weakness”.
He took a total time of 1 hours, 3 minutes and 47 seconds to stand at the top podium position after a photo-finish.
Kevin Pauwels of Team Sunweb-Revor was right on his bumper throughout the event but ultimately had to settle for the second position after Nys managed a lead of 1 second.
Niels Albert of Team BKCP-Powerplus finished further 3 seconds behind at the third position to make it fully Belgian occupied podium.
Julien Taramarcaz of Team BMC, Lars Van Der Haar of Team Rabobank Giant Offroad securing the fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
Niels Albert still leads the Elite men World Cup category after the fourth round with a total number of 280 points in his back pocket.
Nys stays firm at the second position with 265 points while Kevin Pauwels, Klaas Vantornout and Lars Van Der Haar claimed the third, fourth and the fifth positions with 254, 209 and 197 points respectively.
