Svetlana Bolshakova hopeful to recover from injury soon
Svetlana Bolshakova, the 27-year-old Russia born triple-jumper who represents Belgium in international contests, had been suffering from Achilles tendon injury. She has expressed her hopes to recover soon.
Hoping to get in form well ahead of the next summer’s European Athletics Championships, the bronze medal winner of the 2010 Barcelona championships said that if she continued to recover at the present pace, she will also be able to compete in the 2012 London
Olympics.
The Leningrad born Bolshakova, who represented Russia until 2008, ruptured her tendon back in June in Morocco, and thus, she had to miss the World Athletics Championships in Daegu.
After a brief surgery, the silver medal winner of the 2001 World Youth Championships resumed with her training by mid September, this year.
Talking about her recovery from the stated injury and about her training, the bronze medal winner of the 2003 European Junior Championships said, “The rehabilitation of the Achilles is running smoothly, my training is being built up gradually. The week in
Lanzarote was the first test to see what I can do. I am pleased with the outcome. Everything is under control and I hope that there is no reaction, I am on schedule”.
While describing how her recovery from the injury was contributing towards enhanced confidence, the bronze medal winner of the 2010 European Athletics Championships in Barcelona said, “This gives me a confidence boost but the real work still has to begin.
From January, I hope to be back to normal but I’m continuing to keep an eye on things day-by-day.
About the Olympics, I remain realistic. The important thing is that I qualify but I am not worrying about it at the moment”.
Expressing her resolve to do her best to secure her title in the next year’s mega athletics event, Bolshakova said that she will do everything to secure a place in London Olympics, however, she was not sure whether she will succeed or not.
Commenting on her aims and her present conditions to make a solid comeback, Michel Boels, the coach of the promising performer said that they still have a long way to go.
According to him, they had not contemplated on scheduling plans until early June, after which, they will strive to qualify for the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki.
