Svetlana Chimrova seizes Girls 50m butterfly gold: Day five – European Junior Swimming Championships
Svetlana Chimrova of Russia seized gold medal of the Girls 50m butterfly on fifth day of the 2012 European Junior Swimming Championships in Antwerp, Belgium on Sunday, July 8.
Chimrova demonstrated her phenomenal efforts in the shortest butterfly discipline and stifled hopes of her challengers by occupying gold medal of the discipline.
She continued her nerve-wrecking pace in the discipline and made her way to the finishing blockade for gold medal with the timing of 26.97 seconds.
The champion remained 0.29 seconds faster from Louise Hansson of Sweden, who stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing a time of 27.26 seconds.
Second position holder was chased by Maaike de Waard of Netherlands, who suffered a deficit of just 0.02 seconds from her former finisher and sprinted her way to the finishing blockade as bronze medallist by submitting a time of 27.28 seconds.
Bronze medallist was chased by Elena Czeschner of Germany, who stayed only 0.01 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing wall as fourth fastest swimmer by reporting a time of 27.29 seconds.
Following that, the crowd witnessed ferocious efforts of Lucie Svecena of Czech Republic and Marie Wattel of France, who went full rampant for fifth finest spot of the discipline.
The duo tried hard to overpower each other over the finishing end but stayed 0.23 seconds slower from the fourth position holder and ended in a joint finish for fifth position with the timing of 27.52 seconds.
Subsequently, Valeriia Kolotushkina of Russia emerged on the wall for seventh position as she stayed 0.15 seconds slower from her foregoing finishers and touched the wall with the timing of 27.67 seconds.
Eighth position of the discipline was secured by Nastja Govejsek of Slovenia, who stayed just one arm stroke behind and hit the finishing end with an effort of 27.84 seconds.
Govejsek was trailed by Liliana Szilagyi of Hungary and Rozaliya Nasretdinova of Russia, who completed their swims in ninth and tenth place with timings of 27.85 and 28.08 seconds respectively.
Furthermore, Chimrova expressed happiness over her gold claiming effort in the butterfly discipline after the session.
