Svetlana Fedulova and Veronika Popova win gold titles in Ruzi: Final Day – Russian Cup 2011
The final day session of the Russian Cup 2011 concluded with the impressive performances of Svetlana Fedulova and Veronika Popova in their respective events at Ruzi, Russia, on Monday, July 4.
Svetlana Fedulova secured the gold medal in the Women’s 50m freestyle event, while Veronika Popova captured the Men’s 200m freestyle crown.
Fedulova came out strongly in the Women’s 50m freestyle race and nabbed the title with a winning time of 25.66 seconds. Mariya Reznikoff hit the wall second in 25.87 seconds to claim silver, whereas, Viktoriya Andreeva clinched the bronze title in 26.18
seconds.
It was a neck-to-neck battle between Svetlana Fedulova and Mariya Reznikoff, where Fedulova won only just because of her impeccable speed with a fringe margin of 0.21 seconds.
In the second event of the session, Veronika Popova won the Women’s 200m freestyle title with a victorious time of 1 minute and 59.16 seconds. To add to her credentials, Popova moved to top spot in the international swimming rankings of the current year.
In the meantime, Aleksandra Veselov earned second place honours after touching the finishing wall in 2 minutes and 02.57 seconds. The bronze went to Olga Kluchnikova in 2 minutes and 02.82 seconds.
In another race, Mariya Gromov snagged the Women’s 200m back-stroke crown with a triumphant time of 2 minutes and 12.53 seconds. Meanwhile, Kristina Vershinin hit the wall in 2 minutes and 13.00 seconds to grab silver and Aleksandra Papusha earned bronze
with a time of 2 minutes and 13.34 seconds.
Darya Deeva took home the Women's 100m breast-stroke title with a winning time of 1 minute and 09.47 seconds, while Vera Kalashnikov wound up second in time of 1 minute and 09.61 seconds. Anastasia Chaun rounded out the top three in1 minute and 09.95 seconds.
Earlier, Grigory Falko snatched the Men’s 200m breast-stroke title with a sterling time of 2 minutes and 12.34 seconds, whereas, Vyacheslova Sinkevich was placed second in 2 minutes and 11.91 seconds. The third place went to Aleksey Zinoviev in 2 minutes
and 13.96 seconds.
