Svetlana Kuznetsova aims to make a comeback to tennis circuit in January 2013 – Tennis News
Former US Open Champion, Svetlana Kuznetsova, had a formidable season in 2012 but she is ready to put everything behind and march ahead for a bright year. She has joined a relatively competitive squad of ASB Classic that will take
place in Auckland in the first week of January 2013. It will be a pleasant experience for the spectators, who were eager to witness the 27-year-old Russian powerhouse who is absolutely unstoppable when she is on song.
One of the examples of her terrific domination was witnessed at the Roland Garros French Open when she thrashed the in-form third seed Pole star, Agnieszka Radwanska, in straight sets 6-1, 6-2; hitting a barrage of winners coupled
with some mind-startling backhand slices that dismantled the 23-year-old Pole completely. A performance like this is not novel for Kuznetsova but the consistency in her game play is missing probably to the fact that she is missing bulk of the season due to
chronic injuries.
Kuznetsova began the season at ASB Classic this season as well; clasped three victories in which she destroyed two American, Alison Riske and Christina McHale, in the opening two rounds before slaying the Italian superstar, Sara
Errani, who is ranked number six in the world now. She won a single battle in the Apia Sydney International before withdrawing from the second round clash due to an injury.
She played in the Australian Open; captured two wins and lost the superior seeded Sabine Lisicki in the third round. Similar dismal performances, coupled with some serious injury withdrawals, were the feature of her game play.
She failed to win a single battle in the series of tournaments that include Dubai Duty Free Championships, BNP Paribas Open and the Sony Ericsson Open.
Just a win in the Grand Prix De Sar was followed up with two straight losses in the Mutua Madrid Open and Italian Open. Kuznetsova is out of action ever since her first round departure from the Wimbledon Championships in June.
She has been recovering slowly from the injuries and considers herself fit at the moment; practicing in the courts and aiming to make a full fledge comeback in the next season at Auckland.
