Svetlana Kuznetsova blasts past Agnieszka Radwanska to reach round four – French Open 2012
World number 28, Svetlana Kuznetsova, slaughtered the third seed Pole, Agnieszka Radwanska, in the third round clash of the Roland Garros French Open on Friday. It was a blistering effort from the Russian who completely dismantled
the concentration of the Pole and registered crushing straight sets 6-1, 6-2 win.
Kuznetsova showed no respect at all to the superior ranked in-form Pole and completely butchered her apart. She was cruising in the opening set leading 5-0 when she was first broken by the Pole who took a sigh of relief. However,
the Russian didn’t waste time in ousting the Pole in the following game and registered a crushing start to the encounter.
Frustration was clearly visible on the face of Radwanska who was in no position to handle the assault of the Russian. Difficult of returns were made to look pretty simple by the 26-year-old Russian.
There is a rich history between the two players. They have played 13 encounters including this one and the Russian registered double figure head-to-head scores with this win. Now she leads 10-3. Her form reminded everyone of her
glory days when she was ranked world number two in the world. It was way back in 2008. However, it’s never too late to begin the rehabilitation process and this triumph will definitely help to boost her ranking.
The second set witnessed the similar onslaught from the Russian. Kuznetsova bagged an early breakthrough and took a lead of 3-1 at the start. She lost the following serve game but reversed the tempo with another breakthrough that
kept her lead intact.
Radwanska only bagged a couple of games in the second set. It was the most embarrassing defeat for the in-form Pole who has crushed the likes of world number two, Maria Sharapova. So, this was something out of the blue. No one
expected such a crushing defeat for the Pole.
Svetlana Kuznetsova will lock horns with the upset queen from Italy, Sara Errani, who stunned the former world number one, Ana Ivanovic of Serbia, in an epic three setter. So, the match between Errani and Kuznetsova will be a thrilling
one to say the least.
