  1. It isn't quite that simple.

It is normal for projectors and TVs to have different ratings for input and output resolution -- native (i.e. display) resolution and several input resolutions.

The native resolution determines what will be displayed ... and therefore largely how the picture will look. The input resolutions define the different standard signals that can be connected. It is normal for projectors to accept a range of resolutions (e.g. 1080i / 720P / 576P / 480P / 576i / 480i as is the case here).

It will display (according to the published specs -- see link):

"Native reslution is 800 x 480 for TV input

Native resolutions is 1024 x 768 for componant input"

This should give you a pretty good picture. And it is more than the 800x480 resolution you appear to have obtained. You don't say what signal/program/connection this is with ... if standard TV (480), it is what you should expect ... and it won't look great blown up to a big picture. That is why people with HDTVs get HD cable service (720p/1080i) ... the picture is much better.

Many projectors with native 480 resolution are used by people to watch DVDs with quite satisfactory results.

So .. so far, nothing misleading or fraudulant.

On the other hand if you can't get a 720p HD image from an HD signal input via component (3 cables - red, green, blue) you may have room to complain. BUT, note that you have to be able to feed it an HD signal ... and this would have to come from a game machine with HD output, an HD DVD or Blu-ray player, or HD cable or satellite via a suitable receiver, or an upconverting DVD player.

So ..  while you may have been, I'm not sure you did, get taken.

The specs are actually very good for an inexpensive projector. See the second link for comparisons, and the 3rd for an article on this issue (in general).

I hope this makes you feel a bit better.
